Classic Guacamole

Guacamole is a popular Mexican dip made from mashed avocado, onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt, and sometimes tomatoes. This classic Guacamole dip is a versatile and healthy condiment that can be served with tortilla chips, as a topping for tacos, burritos, or burgers, or as a spread for sandwiches.

Equipment

  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 sharp knife
  • 1 mixing bowl (or a molcajete - a Mexican mortar and pestle.)
  • 1 fork

Ingredients
  

  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced (optional, for spice)
  • 1 medium tomato (diced, optional)
  • salt (to taste)

Instructions
 

  • Cut the avocados in half and remove the pits.
  • Scoop out the avocado flesh into a bowl and mash with a fork. Mash to the consistency you like (smooth or chuncky).
  • Add the chopped onion, cilantro, minced jalapeno pepper, and fresh lime juice to the mashed avocado. Add chopped tomato, if using.
  • Mix everything together until well combined.
  • Season with salt, to taste.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, or use it as a topping for your favorite dishes!.
