This Cherry Pie is a classic American dessert made with cherries as the main ingredient. It consists of a sweet cherry filling enclosed in a pie crust. Cherry pie can be either a traditional double-crust pie with a top and bottom crust or a lattice crust with strips of dough forming a crisscross pattern on top.
This pie with cherry filling is often enjoyed during holidays, picnics, and summer gatherings. It can be served warm or cold. Sometimes it is topped with a scoop of vegan ice cream or a dollop of whipped coconut cream.

More Delicious Toppings for Cherry Pie
- Vegan Whipped Cream: Similar to vegan whipped cream, you can also make whipped cream using coconut cream for a dairy-free and vegan option. The rich and creamy coconut whipped cream can add a tropical twist to the pie and elevate its flavor. You can also use aquafaba (chickpea brine) to make a fluffy and creamy vegan whipped cream. Dollop it on top of the cherry pie slices for a luscious and indulgent touch.
- Coconut Yogurt: Another option is to spoon some coconut yogurt over the pie. The tangy and creamy yogurt can contrast nicely with the sweet and tart cherry filling.
- Nut or Seed Sprinkles: Crushed nuts or seeds, such as almonds, walnuts, or sesame seeds, can add a crunchy texture and nutty flavor to the cherry pie. Sprinkle them over the pie before serving for an extra layer of texture and taste.
- Cinnamon or Nutmeg Dusting: You can dust a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg powder over the cherry pie for warm and aromatic notes. These spices can complement the natural sweetness of the cherries and add a cozy and comforting flavor to the pie.
- Lemon Zest: Grate some lemon zest over the cherry pie to add a burst of citrusy freshness. The tangy zest can balance out the sweetness of the cherries and add a bright and zesty contrast to the pie.
- Powdered Sugar: Dusting powdered sugar over the fruit pie can add a delicate sweetness and a touch of elegance. Use a sieve or a sifter to evenly sprinkle the sugar over the pie before serving for a beautiful and finishing touch.
- Fresh Fruit: You can add some fresh fruit on top of the pie for a burst of freshness and added flavor. Sliced strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries can complement the cherry filling and add a colorful and juicy topping.
- Vegan Ice Cream: Serving a scoop of vegan ice cream alongside a slice of warm cherry pie can create a delightful dessert. Choose a vegan ice cream flavor that pairs well with the cherry filling, such as vanilla, almond, or coconut, for a creamy and indulgent treat. Try Nice Cream, Ice Cream.
- Chocolate Drizzle: Melt some vegan chocolate and drizzle it over the pie for a rich and decadent topping. You can use dark chocolate, dairy-free chocolate chips, or vegan chocolate sauce for a delicious and visually appealing finishing touch.
- Nut Butter: Spread a dollop of creamy nut butter, such as almond butter, peanut butter, or cashew butter, on top of the pie for a rich and nutty topping. The nutty flavor can complement the sweet and tart cherry filling and add a luxurious and satisfying element to the pie.
- Vegan Caramel Sauce: Drizzle some vegan caramel sauce over the pie, filled with cherries, for a sweet and gooey topping. You can make your own vegan caramel sauce using coconut milk, maple syrup, or agave syrup, or purchase a store-bought vegan caramel sauce for convenience.

Storage Tips
- Refrigerator: If you have leftovers or want to store a baked cherry pie, you can wrap it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and place it in the refrigerator. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Make sure to place it in an airtight container or cover it properly to prevent it from drying out or absorbing any odors from the refrigerator.
- Freezer: If you want to store cherry pie for a longer period of time, you can freeze it. Wrap the cherry pie tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or place it in an airtight container, and label it with the date. You can freeze cherry pie for up to 2-3 months. Before serving, allow it to thaw in the refrigerator overnight, and then reheat it in the oven to restore its freshness.
- Fruit Filling Separation: If you have a cherry pie with a crumb topping or lattice crust, you may notice that the fruit filling can release some liquid during storage, which may result in a soggy crust. To prevent this, you can place a layer of parchment paper or plastic wrap between the pie filling and the crust to create a barrier and help maintain the crust’s texture.
Whether you prefer a full sealed crust for a traditional look or a crisscross strip top crust for a rustic touch, vegan cherry pie is a delicious and indulgent treat that is sure to please your taste buds. With its vibrant red color and irresistible taste, vegan cherry pie is a wonderful dessert option for special occasions or a delightful treat during cherry season.
